Ringing spoon

  • · A spoon of metal
  • · A piece of thread (approximately the length of an arm)

  • 1. Attach your spoon in the middle of the thread by means of a solid knot. If you have some difficulty, you can ask to your educator to use.
  • 2. Take both ends of the thread and bangs the spoon on the table. You hear the sound which travels in the air(sight) of the spoon up to your ear. JPEG
  • 3. Now, roll up the thread around your indexes. You have to make the same number of tours on each side so that the spoon lives right in the middle. JPEG
  • 4. Place your indexes in your ears.
  • 5. Approach your head of the table to be able to bang the spoon there again by keeping(guarding) fingers in your ears. How the sound which you hear is different from the first one ? Is it more or less long ? More or less hardly ? Why ? MATERIAL(EQUIPMENT) :
    — · A spoon of metal
    — · A piece of thread (approximately the length of an arm)

· When you placed your fingers in your ears with the thread, you created another road for the sound. It left the spoon, travelled in the thread then in your fingers to enter your ear ! By holding the spoon by the handle, type slowly the spoon the edge of a table. You hear certainly the noise of the impact, a young « clung ». The purpose of this experience(experiment) is to manage to hear this sound so strong as a bell of church : a big « dông ». If you throw a pebble in the water, there are themselves waves in the shape of circles around there where the pebble to touch the water. These waves move by going away from the center. It models what we call a wave. To make simple, it is the strength which moves in the material. When the pebble touches the surface,it presses very hardly on the water which is down and givesit some energy. This energy is passed on in water molecules close, which pass on them close and so on
